Hi I have a slight problem with my C250 TD estate, when selecting reverse I get a loud thump from the diff, I have told its a worn diff. My question is this, Can it be repaired or is it cheaper to replace?.

Cheers

More likely to be worn propshaft couplings or differential mounts.

Rear suspension movement.
Second opinion needed if you are unsure.

one would expect the loud thump when selecting forward or reverse depending on circumstance, best way would to put it on garage ramp and check to see where the play actually is, worn diff would normally give rise to whining noises in normal drive and or/leaking seals
