Hi All,

I have a w220 (2000), which last week sailed through the MOT, since the MOT there has been a really bad noise (grinding, crunching noise) from front drivers side. Took it to the local garage as thought needed pads, did replace front pads, and rear discs and pads.

I asked them to check front suspension, wheel bearing etc. as well.

They phoned to say it was finished, BUT the noise was still there, they tried really hard but couldn't find anything.

I'm really worried that its wheel bearing and shouldn't be driven etc. I use the car alot and have booked it in Merc Main dealer next week, and prepare myself for big bill, any pointers.

sounds wheel bearing etc to me, but the garage said not

confused - could they be wrong ???

Cheers.

It could be wheel bearing but why book it into MB when there are so many very good indies that can do the work for half the price,,you can talk to them and explain it.

Your local garage may not be MB experienced? As a the driver you are best placed to hear abnormal noises.

Your dealership or MB specialist will be experienced to reconise abnormal noises. Don't be put off, you know your car..

Thanks for the replies, I think it is the bearing and will get it looked at.

Television -I would prefer to use an indie, but cant find a decent MB specialist near where I work (Telford) and so I have little choice but to use MB. I'm not back at home much during the week, so pretty stuffed.

If anyone can suggest one in Telford then please let me know !!! or is it DIY job (pretty capable DIYer but haven't touch my car yet!), or a MB mobile mec that would do it in Telford.

Cheers.

Fault found (I think)

Took it to MB Peterborough, the had it three days (my choice) and replaced a pipe on the air suspension unit (this unit had been replaced once under warranty recently), and said one of the pipe 'might' have been causing the problem.

The checked the wheel bearing suspension etc. with no fault found.

I was skeptical (very) - but ......

Fault has not come back :D

I have driven it normally and hard to see if I can make it do it again, with no effect - no noise.

So looks like they got it :)

Even better - no charge - all done under warranty -
