bad starting,

Hi Guys, sprinter 313, when I turn the key the engine makes a screking/ rasping noise & turns over a few times before starting, glow light stays on for a few mins before going out,
any ideas?

Glow plug light staying on is often a sign that one or more glow plugs have given up. as for the screking noise,,,,,Get a code reader on it.

did code reader a few weeks back, came up no 1 plug was done, replaced, think should have done them all, code also coming up turbo under boost,
but have this a while now( going into limp mode on a hill, or going above 55 mph) I will get the rest of the plugs done & see what happens,
I read code with a £20.00 reader, not tect minded!

If it screeches before it starts it's likely the starter motor against the flywheel, or the sprag clutch in the starter motor.
