Hi to all. I am new to MBO. I own a ML 270 CDi 163, 2001. This has developed an oil leak from the turbo. A week later , the water pump has seized!! and to make it a really good christmas when i took the top cover off i discovered what was causing the smell of fumes in the cabin.. the injectors have been blowing and caused quite a lot of carbon to form.
I can prob. Sort the injectors myself but was wondering if there is any solution you put on to the carbon build up to help in its removal
Also can anyone recomend a place to get a turbo and a water pump from without paying the main dealer price? Any advice greatly appreciated. Dave.

I'd suggest you repost in the correct part of the forum to get a reply to your query ... folk are normally very helpful.

injector removal

Its best to try and remove when engine hot it softens the carbon,I have heard of people using good old coke to ease removal. The build up comes from the seal on bottom of injector leaking up past injector body which can make removal difficult. If you remove injectors replace with new washers and stretch bolt and make sure you clean screw hole and injector seat also check bottom of injector for damage as they can get burnt if they have been leaking a while.;)

Hi. I have the same problem with my ML270 2002 just purchased. I believe the head face actually warps a trifle? which can cause the injector not to seat properly. On a previous post someone, mentioned a tool they had made to remove the injector and another to clean the face in the head. It would be great if someone could post a photo of the tool for cleaning the head face and I could make one the same, as I am a toolmaker by trade. Apparently the injector also might need facing a trifle off to seat properly. I had a similar problem in my Citroen picasso 2.0 2003 diesel, and we sorted it with a puller and then had to replace it(injector) because it was bent, though that was more stuck from rust than carbon. Be interesting to see how much difficulty we have with this one.

I bought my Turbo off Ebay Germany (actually a guy based in Stuttgart) for EUR400, brand new. It did have damage marks on the extremeties, but the internals were perfect and has performed flawlessly for the last 40+ K.

If you need any info on changing the turbo, I created a DIY thread: http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=28522

The injectors, quite a few Indies on here with good info but also Kebo57 made his own tools to do the job and can advise.

Rotten luck, but with a bit of savvy, you can keep the price down.

Carbon Removal

Dave.

When I used to work on large marine diesels we used a very expensive carbon remover UNTIL we discovered it was the same as Nitromoors Paint remover.
Keep it away from paintwork, face, eyes shin etc. USE GLOVES.
It also washes off with water and works like a champ.

Regards.

another one for the list is good old carburettor cleaner. always chip away at the excess first though. it all gets very sticky when the solvents come out.
