Hi

I recently replaced the trailing arm on the front of my 2002 C220 CDi... I'm guessing I need to grease the new ball joint but how? :(

Does it get greased through the bolt at the top of the ball joint?

Thanks if you can help.

Although I have greased a ball joint that had gone dry before now by using a hyperdeemic nurdle (hic).
So you can do it in an emergency.

And have been for decades. I'd have to think long and hard as to when I last had a vehicle that had 'grease nipples'.

Ah, memories of my Morris Minor. Had to grease those very regularly.

If you have a 230 which has been resin injected on the strut ball joint there's a grease nipple but that's the only one I can think of!

If you think greasing the many nipples on a Morris Minor was a bit of a headache.....have you ever tried replacing the clutch in one of them, lying on your back with the car on axle stands, ???? o_O;):D

It does? I better go see if I can find my grease gun in the old tool box at the back of the shed!

Try a Land Rover... They have grease nipples on grease nipples!
One per balljoint on steering, two per front hub, two per propshaft and if you have an FC101 with the standard winch add another 4 or 5 for good measure!

Only if you have the resin injected cure for a loose balljoint.

It’s easy to find don’t worry!

No Grease Nipples there so I guess that's one job I can cross off my list for now.

Thought I was going to have to get it serviced with the Disco at the local Land Rover indie... he has 50 gallon drums of the stuff :p

Yes I have done them, and that assumes that they are all in working order... and not blocked !!!:)

Pft. Easy life. Try doing it with a Morris Oxford or a Triumph 2.0 Auto box.:(

The 'easy' ones were the Triumph Herald/Vitesse. Out with the seats. Out with the carpet. The gearbox came out through the door.:D

As I remember it, the Morris Minors had a section of their floors removed too for a clutch job...with brass screws holding it in place ( the floor panel that is :) and if you had to replace the brake master cylinder... God Help you !!!! Yes, I have removed / replaced engines and gearboxes' in the Morris Oxfords, but no automatic transmissions... that would be one pig of a job... the manuals were bad enough. The Herald's were a fantastic car.. ahead of their time, but I never had much to do with them, so can't comment on them. I liked them very much though, ( had I had to work on them might make me change my opinion of them !!!!! ) ;)
Regards, Jim2 :D:)

FC101s were fantastic to work on in that regard (at least as long as they weren't radio or ambulance bodied) - most of the work on the gearbox was done from the top! I fitted an overdrive to mine when I had it and didn't need to go under it at all.
All the floor panels unbolt all the way forward to the engine. Mind you if you did have to remove the gearbox they were damned heavy!!!
