Having just cleaned the brake dust from both front sensors, the lights are still on, will they not reset and allow the ABS etc to work unless I hand over yet another kings ransom to Mr Diagnostics for another computer reset???

You also have rear sensors.

And probably an OVP relay, famous for intermittent ABS faults.

Did you check the reluctor rings (what the sensor looks at) for corrosion?

Which model? and when does the lamp illuminate?

Can be a simple thing like brake light switch , cheap and nasty but powers the system, at the pedal. About a tenner, a few mins to take off , test with meter or battery and bulb, Some have 2 switches in one, Mine failed.

youre correct in your assumption! as bobt says, cost about £10/11 in uk (im assuming youre in spain by your name) and take 10-15 mins to fit for a 'diy'er! thats at the most!

Hi,

Assuming you have a 202 body C class then you will have a single rear sensor located on the diff.

Since you had a diagnostic done you should have been told what fault codes were present. That would narrow down your search. Do you know what the codes were?

What way are the lights behaving? Do they go out after the car is started and come back on when driven etc?

What part of Spain are you in?

BTW. Your use of “Mr. Diagnostics” in your post is a funny coincidence as that is a forum name I often use :)

Mr D all I can say is you must be loaded :)))). The garage that carried out the diagnosis only said it would not reset, the lights come on at ignition and stays on, I will try and locate the rear diff sensor and clean. I am just east of Malaga, If your over anytime let me know. Many thanks

Hi again,

Not so sure about being loaded :)

I am now based in Coin so probably not too far from you.

Try this, press the brake before you start the engine. Keep it pressed and see if the light goes out after the engine starts. If it does, release the pedal, if the light now comes back on it’s the brake light switch.

Thanks sounds like a top tip, you are about 50 mins away from me, how wierd is that, have you got a decent indie to service your car, as prior to leaving UK had service carried out, not only did I pay for engine and gearbox oil change, gearbox erratic change up, oil smells burnt so guese not done and engine oil black....so looks like a bad job done there, looking to have jobs done again +gearbox oil filter replacement. Any advice most welcome.
