could anyone explain how the bas/ASR warning light works , I have one that occasionaly lights up, the cause may be a faulty sensor, but the main quustion is how does the system work, what is the sensor monitoring, where is it sighted and when in comes on why doesnt the ASR exclamation light in the center of the speedo light up as it does when the asr is switched of.
I guess what i would appreciate is an explanation of the ASR/BAS system
and how it really work
thanks

The lamps show nothing other than that the systems are working.

ASR Acceleration skid control helps to stop the drivng wheels from spinning under hard accelleration. ASR automaticly brakes the spinning wheel and reduces the torque to that wheel. It is also known as Tracs, or traction control, less refinned systems of the past were known as limited slip differencial, differencial lock

BAS is an addition to ABS where the brake presure is increased in an emergancy situation, this boost is applied until the driver releases the brake pedal. the end result being greatly reduced stopping distances.

Hope this helps. Malcolm

thanks , malcolm.
I'm still confused a little about the sensor problem, when my bas/asr warning lamp comes on , where are the sensors that its reading, I've read there may be one on the brake pedel, or are they on the wheels, also is there some sort of air mass sensing invoved and what does the steering contact ring do

The sensor are often presure related, the lamp normally comes on it the pressure falls. or if there is problem on any of the wheels sensors.. The steering ring is only for the indicators etc and nothing to do with any of these systems.
