At 52,500 mi. (today) above-mentioned happened on my 2000 CLK 320 Cabriolet. Is there some type programming that might have made this happen at the 52,500-mi. mark? Is there some method of "resetting" the indicator light? Thanks in advance!

I think you will find that it is only the ESP/BAS light. Easy common fault, its the brake lamp switch situated over the brake pedal cost about £12

Same symptoms as yours and replaced my brake light switch a couple of months ago after reading about the the problem on this forum. I havn't had a problem since. Mind you I only managed 43K on an X plate before mine played up.

No not big feet Malcolm, against my better judgement I bought an ex London car. Theres always a compromise somewhere. What you do. to get the right spec.

It is worth mentioning that the brake light switch can fail in such a way as to cause the symptoms you describe and still allow the brake lights to operate normally.

Renewing the switch is by far the cheaper option before looking further.

I will go along with you there completely, the right spec is so important otherwise you drive around wishing that you had this and that for the whole time that you keep the car. A car that hs been used can be a much better buy than something put into a damp garage. A man near me uses his car once a week, goes out in the rain and puts it back in the garage all wet and leaves it.
