Hi Alexander, thanks for replying. Yes the light illuminates when I first depress the brake pedal after starting engine - It is then on permanently until I switch off.
The garage suggested changing brake light switch, and then further testing.
Having just replaced diaphragm travel sensor (and already replaced brake switch) I am taking car to an independent merc garage tomorrow to see if they can reset codes. I will report back with findings.

Thanks for all posts on this.

Thought I would let you know verdict.
Star machine identified a faulty sensor inside the brake booster which is not a serviceable part.

Only solution is to fit new brake booster servo.

Part was sourced from Dronsfields (Breakers). I fitted this myself and it has cured the BAS / ESP lights problem. Traction control now working properly again.

Replacing the brake servo took me 1.5 hours. Never done this before so would be alot quicker next time. It is a very tight squeeze to get booster out. After disconnecting brake pedal linkage behind pedal, I unbolted master cylinder from brake booster. Then unbolt braker booster and manouvre around master cylinder to get out. Awkward but it does eventually come out !

Refittng is same procedure in reverse.

Thank Again everyone...
