I need to do some tests but I'm sure my starter battery A2305410001 is on its last legs, pretty sure its the origonal from 2007

So given they are circa £200 which lets be honest for a small batterry is a lot !! Has anyone successfully used an alternative ?

Tayna batteries seem to have a good reputation .... though I've never bought one from them

I've used them a few times over the years, good company but they don't have this exact pattern, it seems almost merc/varta specific.

14 years out of a £200 battery seems relatively good value to me. I'd try MB Grangemouth and speak to Euan - they seem to do realistic prices on batteries. Give him your forum name for discount.

Get a battery of the same size and at least same capacity and amps. Just look at number of battery related posts on forum. I have bought from Tayna several times, always Varta Silver batteries, good pricing and excellent customer service and delivery. My old M-B battery was a Varta with M-B stickers on it.

Another vote for Tayna, I bought a Varta about £70 for a SLK.
You are lucky as you don't have stop/start, which pushes up the price.

Original all the way. Been posted many times, the cost v longeivity far outperforms anything else out there.

Only changed my w220 battery once, still on my original w251 battery.

Varta seem to make the OEM MB batteries. What's your view on buying a Varta battery rather than an MB stickered one. Is there a difference, if the spec is the same? I've wondered that but always bought OEM.

From the Varta section, Tayna website;

VARTA CAR BATTERIES

Varta Car Batteries are fitted by most car manufacturers as the OEM fitment. Because of this competitive edge, Varta Car Batteries are the largest manufacturer of car batteries in the world.

Varta classify their batteries into three main ranges;
Varta also classify their car batteries into the technology types used;
  • Wet (Maintenance Free) - The classic type of car battery; these are ABS plastic cased batteries with lead plates and liquid elctrolyte around them.
  • AGM - Varta AGM Car Batteries are a heavier duty battery where the electrolyte is suspended within a glass matt material sandwiched between the plates. AGM batteries are traditionally used in higher end vehicles, but have recently been adpoted for many Start-Stop vehicles.
  • EFB - Varta EFB Car Batteries are a middle ground between wet and AGM batteries. EFB stands for 'Enhanced Flooded Battery' and are very heavy duty wet batteries that attempt to bring the benefits of AGM batteries but without the higher cost.
