Hello all,

It's that time of year again when the cold starts to take it's toll on our cars. I'm looking for a new battery, as starting on cold mornings is becoming a pain. I've tried doing a search but there seems to be a fatal error everytime I try to set it away.

So I was wondering what brand of battery is regarded as a good one (Bosch, Varta?) and what are people on here using?

I came across this site http://www.performancebatteries.co.uk/ which offers a Four year warranty which seems pretty good? but I've never heard of them......anyone used them before?

Thanks for any help.

The main thing with any battery is the amp hour rating ...make sure it is the same at least as the one you are replacing..former posts on this subject would seem to indicate that costco was the cheapest place to buy a battery..The problem with buying online is if the goods are faulty or you have to use the warranty, you will have no car whilst the battery is being shunted across the world.. so for items you depend on buy local..

Hi and thanks for the quick replies fellas. I'm not really sure of what specs I should be looking for (I've searched the web) but I've found a local vendor that sells Bosch batteries and I'll call in and buy one tomorrow. It's makes sense buying local for the essentials as you said Xtractorfan.......cheers bud.

The Varta battery on my W208 gave up after 3 years in 2004 - mainly due to low car useage. There is a heavy electical drainage from this vehicle so don't mess about with cheap batteries. Go straight to your local Varta agent and buy an MB recommended replacement. If I remember correctly, mine cost about £90 in 2004.

I swear by BOSCH, Get S4 or S5 range. Best thing there is and LIFETIME Warranty!

Defo worth the money

And they honoured mine after 4 years.

This may come as a surprise but a genuine MB battery is a good buy.

I recently went round the motor factors looking for a replacement for my '202. I eventually settled on a Motaquip 100Ah for £100 with 4 year no-quibble warranty. Turns out an MB one with the same spec. could've been had for £93.61

If you go for one with an absorbent glass mat it will cost you £130 ish.
MB batteries have 3 year warranty, btw.

IMHO, it's worth checking the MB prices before you jump. (excuse the pun).

Strange but true, Malcolm

I'm looking on the back cover of a recent MB Gazette - the prices are there for all to see. (These are wet batteries, btw) The prices don't exactly come as a shock (sorry, 'nuther one)

This is shocking, this thread is becoming short of valid. Can we move on before the sparks start flying.
