Battery lamp turns on, losing steering

Hello, my name is Stefan, I am from Montenegro, I am new here and I am really looking forward to discussing my favourite cars with you!

I need help/advice.

I have A170, 2001, 95 hp. Recently, battery lapm turns on while driving, with that simultaneously I lose steering power (it gets hard to manipulate). Further, I think when the A/C is on - it happens more often. It lasts from 3-10 seconds, then it gets normal.

It’s an electrical problem.

Check the belt condition and tension to the alternator.

Is there a squeal on start up which reduces after a minute? - the auxiliary belt & tensioner May need replacing.

Check the connections to the battery.
Check the Earth strap from battery to chassis.
Earth strap from alternator to chassis.

Check the fuse boxes for any signs of corrosion, inc the main fuse.

as above ,poss alternator giving up, try belt first it happens more often when you have an electrical load on. than if everything is switched off except motor.

Used to get same problem with Land Rover Defender. Belt slipping on the pulleys.
Check belt condition, tensioners and crank pulley.
