Hi, all

I have a battery/alternator problem and have pretty much got all the info i need from viewing the relevant posts on this site.
One question though if anyone can answer. One post siad that a battery light that decreases in brightness with increase in revs points to the alternator.
My light increase in brightness with increase in revs. Sometimes the light goes out while driving but comes on again soon after. Any significance.

Also the brake light shines dimly when but only if the battery is also on.

Thanks in advance.

Does the battery light shine without the brake light ever?

You may have two seperate problems.

Do you have anything to check the battery voltage?

there are 3 diodes in the regulator pack, and the light will behave in a different way depending on what diode has gone down.

Get a new reg pack from any Bosch agent, under £20 and the car will be like new.

No the brake light is always on with the battery light when it is on. The van is having trouble starting even when warm.

Sorry "Bosch Agent" means nothing to me. complete novice here.
Also where does the reg pack fit?

I am going to my tyre fitter tomorrow to have battery checked but i just trying to get all the info possible. Fitter told me before that i needed a new battery then a new alternator and it turns out a badly worn battery lead was the problem.

Knowledge is power. Or at least a way to save money hopefully.

In the yellow pages under cars and garage services they list Bosch agents these people sell the bit for you alternator, its the regulator pack that screws on the back.

Thanks guys.
television, you seem certain it is the regulator and not the alternator. Why is that.

Thanks again

99.9% of the time it is only the regulator that fails, there is not much in the rest of it to go wrong, you do not have bearing problems. why spend £100 + when you can get away with under £20. it is part of the alternator.
