I thought there was a sticky on this somewhere.

Just wondered, especially for petrol as there are numerous posts on diesels.
Ecp currently recommending shell, castrol, 'engine oil' Mobil, and petronas.

Ive used Millers Oils XF Longlife C3 from Opie and not sure last year think it might have been mobil (mate serviced it)

Dont do many that miles these days.

Best engine oil-------- for what car?

Only one comment was that after a long expensive court case in America I believe the word synthetic was redefined. Where previously synthetic oils were understood to contain chemical components that had been "manufactured" -- from scratch from chemical feedstuffs Castrol won the right to call some of their Oils "synthetic " due to the refining process they had gone through although they were still mineral oil derived. In other words "synthetic" became synonymous with process rather than origin. The results may be the same but how manufacturers get there may be different.

ECPs own brand Triple QX has passed testing is now an approved MB oil. Posted by ECP:

Hi Guys,

The Oil team, here in Wembley have been working very hard over the past 2 years with our Triple QX engine oil, and I know many of you have chosen it for your past services and are pleased. This hard work has helped us to become the number 1 Oil supplier in the after market.

Earlier this year, our 5w40 PD (521776081) was approved by VAG for use in VW505.01

Yesterday, we had confirmation from Mercedes that our Triple QX 5w30 C3 Engine Oil (521776061) has passed their manufacturer testing and been given full Mercedes Approval for use in MB229.51.

Desc: TRIPLE QX 5w30 Fully Synthetic (Low Saps C3) Engine Oil 5Ltr
Part No.: 521776061

Depends on the mileage or condition of the engine bearings. It's not all about the make, it's more about the grade.

Higher mileage, higher worn bearings, use thicker grade oil.
