What does your manual say?

98 when we can get it, always goes in my cars, and they get better milage because of it.

I once used to use 98 in a carburrated 190, and it did make an appreciable improvement.

I have tried it in my 1993 SL500, and I could detect no difference in mpg, or acceleration. With 95 the 500 runs smoothly at all engine speeds and gives better than advertised fuel economy.

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
With my 320 CLK I did see a slight improvement with 98 - was it worth the extra though? Not sure

I put any old muck in mine so long as it is at least 95. The manual says 95.

I have tried 98, Shell V and other ''premium'' fuels with no detectable benefits.
Maybe they are ''better'' in laboratory conditions but in the real world in my judgement you will be chucking money away if you do not buy the cheapest 95 immediately available to you without crossing the carriageway.

If you go to France make sure it''s OK to use SP95-E10 (95 with 10% ethanol). It's almost impossible to buy the normal stuff on autoroutes (and most garages) so you are stuck with 98.
