Why don’t you buy a recon kit assuming it’s only the piston ring seal that’s worn

Have tried these repair kits in the past on my range rover and found them to last only a short time depending on how much wear is in the pump, The one that is on the car now is an after market part only 6 mths old and already playing up so rather than mess about I am after a new compressor, Thanks for your reply .

No used them B4 on Range Rover, pump that is on car now is an after market unit and only 6 mths old, and is playing up, car in garage end of week to double check system and to confirm that pump is the problem, if it is that will be returned under warranty, so rather than mess around with pattern part cheep units (From China) so i found out I want a reliable unit.

Like every one I want value for money, dont mind paying out for something that is of good quality and will be reliable Dont want Chinese copies made out of substandard materials .

I bought rear air springs from them for my R Class the other year. One of them did leak after a short time but they replaced it with no problems & I then had no further problems. :)

The choices appear to be:

Mercedes £500
Arnott £300
Aerosus £200

What would be your choice ? I know the merc one is over priced, anyone had experience of the other 2 Brands ??

… you can buy them for 180 on ebay from the original supplier... dealers can sell for 240 but like to charge 600

repair kit it the way to go isn't it about 20 quid... If you really want to keep the car, chuck it all in a skip and fit real steel springs and dampers... two places in the USA supply plug and play kits… if they bothered to say how the springs and dampers compared to the catastrophe they came with when new I'd have done it....

I still whish I had the ride is disgusting on air... handles like a joke, rides like a joke and on older cars its just continuous maintenance and 4 x the cost of having real suspension

this isn't the other I was thinkingoff but its another

I was reading a technical article from an engineer where BMW were upset these days they need to put air on the 4x4 stuff... they think its the devils spawn and everything is better on steel (but for variable ride height air had the win on tractors)

Hey all,
I've literally just come here to ask the same question for our W220 which is sat on its butt this evening. I've so far deduced the pump to be at fault. The car is on its second pump, which has done at least 180k, recently struggling to raise the car, now nothing at all. It runs but is loud/rough sounding (until the car shuts off the pump due to no recorded pressure increase and throws the red dash warning.)

Options: New pump from Merc - i'm expecting this to be expensive. £300 ish on ebay.
Aftermarket pump - we don't want cheap and short life, so links to the OEM manufacturer anyone?
Repair the existing pump - any DIY's? Links to good quality replacement parts?

Thanks!!

Mercedes do offer a service-exchange unit for very competitive price, but dealers won’t offer it unless you ask
any ideas on price?

Going by your previous replies - go to Mercedes......

Although I repaired my Pump on my S500 W220 and it worked fine afterwards. Cost all of 70 quid or thereabouts.
I saw your brief write up on repairing your pump yourself - where did you get the repair kit? Thanks
