Defo cleaning the car!!

Cleaned (two bucket with microfibre mitt) and waxed (Collinite 915) on Friday eve (nice and cool)

Vacuumed and cleaned (Meguire's interior detailing spray) inside Saturday morning then treated (Gliptone Liquid Leather) the leather in the evening.

Now admiring the sparkle and the smell of leather :D :D

Thanks for all the replies. The Paint work has tiny little scratches in it. Looks like its been through a car wash a few times. A couple of the panels look smeary in the sun light also. Would the clay bar sort this out or does it need some kind of t cutting first. So I guess I need the paint work brinnging up to its original lustre before getting the elbow grease out!

Two Bucket Method?

Defo cleaning the car!!

:D :D

Could you please explain the 'two bucket' method of washing......I usually hose down initially, then wash with a good detergent using a mitt, hose again, then dry with a lightly applied chamois leather. Although I have used this method for years, I am always glad to listen to others!

Thanks,

Ernie

Two buckets, one filled with warm water and car wash the other filled with just clean water. Dip the mit in the soapy water wipe car dunk mitt in clean water and rinse out. Dip into soapy water and wipe car...etc..etc.

Some fit a grit guard to the rinse bucket but I've not seen the need.

BTW I always rinse down the car with a hose before washing to remove any loose grit.

And use a waffle cloth instead of a chammy. Much softer, less chance of scratching and dries better! ;)

I use the two bucket method when the weather is so hot that normal people don't wash their cars. I wash and clean one panel at a time so as not to leave baked-on soapy water marks. Works a treat.

So as to add a little to this "best wax" thread I recently used Auto Glym Ultra Deep Shine which is designed for dark colours and newer paint. Seeing as my car is Titanite red (dark-ish) and has been in the bodyshop a few time (new-ish paint) I thought I'd give it a go. It was very easy to apply and the result was marginally better than the Auto Glym Super Resin Polish that I usually use. A big downside though is that after a few days I began to notice that any residual wax left in cracks became extremely visible (white), more so that I've ever noticed before. I will be more careful in future.

I've also heard nothing but praise for the new Turtle Wax Ice. I think I'll give that a go next.

i was told by the bodyshop guy at a arage i worked at that the worst thing for your paint is to wash your car on a hot day! leaves microscopic cracks in the paint! however this may have only applied to older (cellulose) painted cars. ive never used the ice yet, but ive always used turtle wax products on my car and i find theyre great although the polish can be a bit of work! it gives a good shine though and is relatively inexpensive too!

[Thumper top tip]

Buy a hand brush !! ..... dont use it to wash the car, but use it to get into all the nooks and crannies ..including around the badges and lenses ................. keep it as dry as the day you bought it.

It takes seconds to go round the vehicle after you've buffed of the polish, and takes away all the overpolish you have .................. easy peasy ! .......... "Simples"

Another vote for Autoglym and Collinite here.

Tried a brand new wax product called Heritage Wax. It has had rave reviews on Detailing World.

It is very easy to use, not as easy as Autoglym but it gives a much deeper shine and beads water like Collinite. Great on my Tansanite blue paint.

.... and yet another plug for Autoglym - their products are generally very effective and the prices of most of them fairly reasonable.

A striking exception is Autoglym High Definition Wax. This is ludicrously expensive - around £40 for a small tub in the High Street, bit cheaper on the internet - but it really does provide an exceptionally durable long lasting water resistant shine as a final finish after thorough initial clean - with, for example, Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner.

When you're feeling flush, give yourself and the car a treat - it will look great!

I was a big Autoglym fan but I've recently started to use Sonus products and I'm really impressed so far. Yet to try anything on the clk

Colourmagic is the best stuff topped up with the cheap turtlewax hard wax - this lasts for such a long time and it is as good as collonite with the added bnus of the colourmagic underneath masking any swirls

try it and be amazed

I'm intrigued that no-one on this thread mentions using a brush on the end of a hose, with wash fluid reservoir built in. It means that you are constantly washing with fresh water, and no sponge or mitt or cloth to trap dirt particles. Have I missed something?

Chemical Guys 50/50 wax for me

That is after the car has been polished with Grade A polish to remove any marks

For years now I have been using a polish called Mer, it’s really good in preserving a car in perfect condition. Polish it on in the normal way about twice a year but add a capful to your bucket of hot water whenever your washing your car and it comes up just as if you had spent hours polishing it .This is a good long term preservative polish that seems to shrug the effects of UV on the paint .I have tried others but Mer always seems to look the best for the longest. It’s German by original manufacture and they tend to make good products.

I have not used it myself but my Dad uses "HARLY WAX car polish Pure carnauba wax".
This is the sort of man who takes his wheels to get the breakdust of and polish them so it must be good. :)
