Hi,
I am living in Coin, very close to Mijas, and have done the trip three times recently. Twice via Le Havre and once via Santander.
It took me 15 Hours from Santander in a Truck and 18 hours from Le Havre in a car (going rather quick). I would think that with the family and travelling at a more moderate pace Santander would be 12 hours and Le Havre about 21 hours. The fuel and toll saving from Santander is huge. With two drivers you could easily do that in a day with just a few short breaks. That, combined with the shorter time and hotel saving, I think makes Santander the best choice.
For me, accommodation was easier as I was travelling alone so did not have to worry about the kids. Also it was off season so I was confident enough that I would find a bed for the night with no bother.
With a satnav, make sure to set it for whatever way you prefer, ie use or avoid toll roads etc. Be aware if you are going to avoid toll roads that it will bring you a long way out of your way to avoid tolls. Its best to bring a map to check up on progress.
In my experience, my Garmin has two levels, brilliant and useless. When its useless it’s extremely frustrating.
Have a good trip.
