Thought it was the board software reading the room in which said appliance is often found as a rude word. The way round is to write it k-i-t-c-h-e-n :D

As an aside, my first W211 had remote boot opening that used to make a loud bang as it unlocked. I found amusement in operating it for fun as people approached the car in supermarket, office and airport car parks. A few dropped shopping bags and cases were seen!! :D:D

None of my other MB's have made such a loud noise.

The lock was set too tight, not right at all, doe.s the lid close below the wings.

Most are saying to take it to MB for a Star analysis.
I'm just wondering if its possible that someone else remote locking/unlocking is sending the signal for my tailgate to open?

That just is not possible as no mercedes has been stolen with out the original key.

That may be so. But thats regardless of whether it is locked or unlocked. Just went for a drive and i could hear what seems to be the tailgate motor buzzing for about 10 seconds.

The operation of the locking and the coding do not have anything to do with this, if it is not locking the way it should, then it is not set up or adjusted correctly or a part is damaged, once more the motor should not run on at all.

I'll let Mercedes take a look. Still under warranty, just a bit inconvenient as I was putting it up for sale next week.

Its not the locking,it locks ok. Just that something is telling it to open for whatever reason!

Got so used to both boot and tailgate (have saloon and estate) opening with remote key that I get annoyed now when I press the remote for our Fiat Panda and nothing happens!

I actually have to stoop a little, put my fingers into a purpose-designed recess at the base of the boot lid, and - wait for it - lift it manually. Cheap foreign car.

Not only that, but on the Mercs, I even have to shut the boot manually on the saloon, or actually go up to the Estate and reach up and press a red button on the tailgate before it obeys me. The time and energy it all takes! Cheap foreign cars!

You are missing what I am trying to tell you, if the lock is not locking correctly, and we know that it is not as the motór runs on too long then it could do anything like opening again

cant remember if it was MB or not (think it was) but i saw an advert a few months back for a car with keyless entry where you could walk to the rear of the car, wave your foot under the bumper and the boot would open for you!

I have had the boot and even the car unlock itself when I have had the key in my pocket not once but numerous times
I have come home once to find the garage door open after I know I closed it when leaving the house, I try now not to leave the key fobs in my pocket when I sit down
The original garage key had a slide cover over the fob which was a good idea, but a real pain when coming home on the motor bike to slide open the cover and press the button when riding up the drive!
The SL boot opens off the catch but doesn't fly open, all we need to do is lift the lid up once the key is pressed, handy when your hands are full :)

Yes I have the power opening on 1 SL and on the CL, we do know the wires break in the hing area. After driving the early SL yes the boot lid is heavy, but what a poor state we are all in if we cannot lift open a boot lid. As you say on these early SL the lid just pops ,and that is that.

On the remote it takes just 2 seconds of holding the boot open function to release the boot, wearing tight jeans and a few coins in the pocket could easily open the boot.

its Ford.

When that advertisement was first shown, a blond walked up to the Ford Estate, wiggled her pretty toes under the rear bumper while carrying about three hundredweight of shopping, and the tailgate magically opened.

What wasn't shown were the many out-takes, where the blond wiggled her pretty toes and promptly fell over!

At least, as long as I remember to have the MB keys in my hand before gallantly humping all the shopping I can just squeeze the keyfob as I approach the car and smile as the tailgate rises. I wiggle nothing when making this happen!
