Happy New Year everyone!

What a great way to start off the new year with a lovely problem.. So I collected my car last night after being away for a couple of days and my passenger side lightbulb cut out while on the motorway with the error message "intelligent light system inoperative" and straight after with "left dipped beam". Now this morning I put the faulty bulb into the right side(just to make sure it was the bulb that had gone) and it worked fine yet I'm not getting any response from the left side with either bulbs.

I've checked all the fuses and know both bulbs work but I'm really puzzled at what it could be?

Do these systems use a ballast resistor? Next to the bulbs they are the most common thing to fail and each side will have it's own.
