Cheers Andy, I know what your saying - I was (very) surprised to see this - but reviews seem good and at this stage its only a diagnostic - so if they c*ck that up I will stay clear

thx for the link personal reccomendations are always welcome - the car tells me I'm due a D service in 1500 miles so I would be quite happy to try them ( Even tho, its over the border in bandit country )

Glow plug relay unit
Turbo Actuator
Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor

these were cleared with the Turbo Actuator and Exhaust Back pressure codes immediately

they have said they have a "specialist" who can repair the actuator without replacing the whole of the turbo

looking at 450 for the work

I did read on a thread a chap did just change the actuator but still had to buy a complete turbo unit

Both actuators and ebps do crop up regularly with the om642 engine . You could as an outside chance try changing fuse F44 which is in the engine bay by the brake fluid reservoir , it's a 15amp fuse that does cover (I believe actuator and inlet port motor ) .
I recently took my actuator off after having some fault codes , looked inside it , found none of the broken wires that are a common failure point . Cleaned it out with electrical spray , and put a tiny blob of high temp grease on the worm gear and bingo fault codes disappeared . That was nearly a year ago .
As far as I know you can buy a reconditioned actuator for £100 ish , and they don't take long to fit , but I don't know if they need to be calibrated to the car by MB Star computers ?
If you are handy , the ebps is about £50 new , but you could try cleaning it out as there is a tiny hole underneath it which blocks up .

Just change fuse F44 , anyone can change a fuse . Worth 50p

It's a large flat ,blue , 15amp fuse , if it's the same setup as mine it's back right of the box , behind one of the square black relays . Swap it with another of the same rating if you haven't got one

Just an update - after a little bit of 'faffing' I returned the car to the sales guy who has sent it to an independent Merc garage for the actuator to be done ( I did threaten to return it and just get the cash back - but I'm a bit of a softy and I love the car - they are a real power house - when not in limp mode )

it's due for collection today so hopefully I will have her back and zooming around from tomorrow

Welcome, regarding the SatNav update discs are about £100 & issued every 12 months.
Its not a particularly good system, its quite slow & no speed cameras.
I run Waze on my iPhone. Its free covers the whole of Europe, & uses very little data.

I use Navmii but until I get a bluetooth thingamy gig sorted out I do use the Merc sat Nav
