You have a better grip in the dry,,but worse in the wet, so never go out in the rain,,I don't;):D

I do, it's so much more fun, plus when it's wet you don't wear your tyres quite so much.

it does, but it also prevents you being such an idiot in the wet! or at least thats the theory! however more surface area of the tyre means the tyre has to move more water, hence the chances of aquaplaning are increased! but im sure you all already knew that!

Yep give me a Citroen 2cv in the snow and wet......

I can't wait to get a puncture and put the spacesaver on! That should enhance the driving experience.

buy 4 of them! then you can keep your alloys in mint condition, get extra mpg and it will be brilliant in the winter when the bad weather arrives! as well as looking like a daddy long legs on its skinny pramwheels!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

That's because you can now only do 20 round the corners compared to 50 previously in your 320. ;)

Only joking.

My E320 Cdi has amg 17 inch wheels on it with 225 45 17 on the front and 245 45 27 on the rear.

When i was looking for new front tyres yesterday i was told they were a factory upgrade but the guy said the only factory upgrade that should be on that model is 225 45 17 on the front and 235 45 27 on the rear.:confused::confused:

I was wondering... could this be the reason why my cruise control stops working as in jumps out for no reason between 70 and 80 mph. Seems to work fine at other speeds.

You are not,,, the 210 with 17 x 7.5j wheels should have 235 x 45 all round

If you have wider wheels on the rear then please consult this chart,,or ask again if you are not sure

http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/information/fitting_chart/mercedes-benz

Ok, i'm not sure. The thing that has always puzzled me about my wheels is the front alloys lip isnt as deep as as the rear. They say amg on them but i dont know what you call them. They are the style that suits the e class the best. here is a thread that has pics of the wheels except there 17's
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=51040

could it be that someone has put the wrong tyres on the rear at some point and they should be 235 45 17. The other issue is why the front wheels are different to the rears.

Sorry if this isn't to clear. I am at work and dont have access to pics of my actual wheels.

Thanks

No thats all fine. what you do need to do is to measure the width of the wheels,, you can do that by putting a tape measure through one of the holes. They maybe all the same.

If they are both the same back and front then the 235 all round are fine and correct,,if the rear wheels are wider,,please post back,, you could start a new thread if you wish as this one is messy, and we can take it from there, and make sure that you get the correct tyres

For a given corner weight and a given tyre pressure, the contact area does not change when different tyres are fitted.

What does change is the *shape* of the contact patch and it's orientation relative to the direction of travel of the car. A thin tyre giving a contact patch aligned with the longitudinal axis of the car [good for traction], and a wide tyre giving a contact patch that is much wider than it is long. Being wider, the contact must encounter, and thuis clear more water than a thin tyre.
