Just posted a feelgood post but for some reason stuck it on the bodywork section. No fun getting old. Anyway, has anyone else got a 220 cdi or other with 17" wheels but 225's on the front and 245's on the rear?

Thought it odd but having read the handbook it says that is one spec. First thoughts were about fuel consumption as this car was returning only 39 mpg after a very steady run whereas my old 220 cdi would of shown 50+. that was prior to the service and have to check since.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the different sizes?

The profile will be different

the 225 will have a 45 profile and the rear 245 will be 40 or they should be

My C200 has the same size as yours, thats always around the 50mpg mark.

Its just the way the car was made!

Good road holding though!!!

Thats correct Malcolm, and it is a sports pack, maybe thats a reason to have more expensive tyres on the back?

I always thought it was for better grip and stability, but I'm probably wrong.

having that 500 engine at the other end wont help tyre wear much either! a diesel should in theory be a little easier on tyres than your beast Malcolm!

I can't wait to get a puncture and put the spacesaver on! That should enhance the driving experience.

it does, but it also prevents you being such an idiot in the wet! or at least thats the theory! however more surface area of the tyre means the tyre has to move more water, hence the chances of aquaplaning are increased! but im sure you all already knew that!
