Folks,

My local, highly trusted indy is currently looking at my beloved car to try and source the cause of a strange noise Ive noticed over the last few days.

Symptoms: a noise similar to straining power steering system, particularly noticeable below 1000RPM, don't have to be moving - although low speed manoeuvres do make it more noticeable.

His initial thought was power steering pump (although I admit *foolishly* I didnt check PS fluid level before taking it in)

What do people reckon it is most likely to be? Replacement PS pump needed? just PS fluid top up? Something else?

Hope it's not a replacement pump, as I found one on line for £220+VAT, and thats without labour. Ouch!

It was indeed the PAS level - needed more fluid. That was the cheap bit!

The expensive bit was the cause for the low level - the split p/s connector and union! Out of interest, what would you guys, as MB Specialists charge for this part? I *very much doubt* I've been fleeced (local indy, certainly not MB themselves!), but £150 (plus about the same again for labour) for what is effectively just a pipe and connector seems a bit pricey to me?

Thanks

Steve

The pipe when I priced up for a friend recently was about £125 + VAT.

Hmmm, this was 150+VAT - so a little on the pricey side it seems, but not excessive... I guess from the description of "split pipe" I'd been given on the phone, I had something more in the 30-40 quid region in mind!

Doh!

Well, it's all done now, and all good - hopefully it won't happen again soon!

Cheers folks!
