I was part of the launch team on the X-type (X400), very good car...and they don't rust:p must make a very good second hand car due to low values...the only downside from my side is that never produced a diesel auto...

Dragging up my personal diary again... :D

Another year on and the Cat went straight through the MOT yet again with no advisories so far in its history.

Outlay for 2014 was 2 pairs of tyres and a headlamp bulb - offside one again, grrh! Oh and oil/filter service.

48.3 mpg overall on just over 10,000 miles so can't grumble at that.

I still enjoy driving it for my daily commute and nothing has fallen off yet..

Wow! Must be all those Ford bits fitted........;)

They are very underrated, my neighbour has the Sovereign version, very nice indeed........and he never needs his mechanic around to fix it every month as he did when he had the Citroen XM

They produced a diesel auto 2.2 in 2007 but I couldn't find one with all the spec I wanted.

Time for my annual post on this thread! I can't believe that I have owned the Cat for 5 years now! Doesn't time fly?

Straight through the MOT yet again with it's first advisory at 9 years old - "slight corrosion on Front to Rear Brake Pipe". I shall clean that up when I get a chance and smear a thin layer of grease / waxoyl on it.

Apart from the normal service items - oil / filters, there has been no expenditure at all this year.... Everything still works, nothing has dropped off :)..

The mileage is just on 140,000 now and the average fuel consumption over the last 10,000 miles was 48.4 mpg.

Overall, 2 sets of tyres, 2 headlamps bulbs and 1 sidelight bulb plus oil / filters isn't bad in 5 years..

sounds like its based on a Mondeo!!!!

oh wait a minute.........:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

seriously though as far as ownership costs go, it seems like theyre pretty good! i considered one when i sold the 203 but i needed more rear seat space than the 203 had, and the X type just doesnt seem to have the space the mondeo has

It's that time of year again folks ! The car was booked in for its MOT this morning and on the way home last night my favourite offside headlamp bulb failed.... It fails once a year ( the nearside has never been changed!) always just before or after the MOT!

Anyway, bulb changed and it passed with no advisories as I had cleaned and greased up the front to rear brake pipe from last years advisory.

Now on 149,800 and the only expenditure this year was a rear wheel bearing / Hub that was a bit noisy but no play, £75 fitted..

Still waiting for something to drop off....still enjoying it as my commuter car and the mpg averaging 50.4..

164,000 miles and 8 years later the Jag went straight through the MOT again with no advisories. Apart from normal service parts including Brake Disks and Pads all round, I've replaced one drop link on the rear suspension, the windscreen washer pump and powder coated the alloy wheels and that's your lot! I think its done rather well and can't complain. Next year it will be time to part with it and return to the Mercedes fold maybe unless another Jag takes my fancy...

WOW. Sounds like they are bulletproof for daily drivers.

I also notice that each year you get older, you MPG increases - Coincidence? Or just 'slowing down' ?

Me slowing down err no ! ;) The engine feels stronger than ever and I think it has nicely loosened up over the years - as diesels seem to do hence the better fuel consumption.
