It wont rev high until you're driving it.
See how it is on the road.

Ok. Nearly there... I have got hold of a wrong size similar leak off connector which is going to do the job until new ones arrive next week.
Engine started on the button. BUT. . I seem to be in a limp mode which I think it went into when my alternator packed up at the start of this thread.
Symptoms.. Engine will only rev up to 2.5k revs.
I haven't driven it yet as still got to put back air filter etc.
How do I get out of limp mode?
Get the codes read and take it from there

Yep, too many possibilitie to limp, read the codes. But put everything back first, It might be at limp because your air filters are not in place (air mass does not match) etc. and true, some engines won't rev stationary but all diesel I have owned, have done up to red. Everything else is conencted?

I will do this. Is it worth buying a scanner and if so is there a particular type that I should get. Or should I take it somewhere to get a diagnostic scan? I feel that it just needs some codes to be reset but that is just me guessing. I don't have much money coming in so trying to do as much D.I.Y. as possible.

Sadly connecting the air filter did not fix it nor did driving it for one mile.

You can get generic OBD scanners from as little as £3 or £4 which can link to your phone using Bluetooth. They will show you the fault codes and allow you to clear them (assuming you have a fault code). Limited functionality though but might get you over this issue.
It will probably be coming from China so will be slow arriving.

Many on here use iCarsoft OBD scanners that are focussed towards MB vehicles.
I have an iCarsoft MB V2.0 which has a lot more functionality for MBs. It is excellent for diagnosing issues across all areas of an MB. It will cover other makes too but just more like the generic readers above.
They cost about £150.

ICarsoft also have a multi vehicle OBD scanner called the iCarsoft CR Pro if you are covering more than one brand of vehicle. They cost about £250.

Make sure you buy from a legitimate iCarsoft supplier as there are rip-off copies for sale.

Then download 'Torque' from the google play store.
It has functionality, but very basic for that. It can reset basic faults.
As a programme to monitor your engine (plus more fun stuff) it can be useful.

iCarsoft does a whole lot more for a lot more quids. But it doesn't replace Xsentry Star.

Before .... .
I'm considering changing the injector seals on my E250. I'm curious to know how you got on. Did you complete the job? If so how long did it take, and what were the gotchas along the way?
