Hi All,
after washing my 2004 W211 today, I noticed a pool of water sitting on top of what I reckon is a drain grille measuring about 4 inches long by an inch wide. The grille/drain sits in a well just below the centre of the screen, where the near side wiper arm bolts onto (I guess) the wiper motor.

Soaked it up with a rag, as there was so much of it.

Before I start taking things apart, is this a poke around with a wire or a blast with compressed air?

Your thoughts are welcome.

Cheers...........................Joker.

Hi Joker --Air is best if you have a compressor ?---give it a good blowing out- just watch your eyes for flying debris though.

Hi Teddy, thanks for that. I've got a compressor so will give it a go tomorrow night. Any idea where the drain exits?

Cheers..............Joker

Theres a recall on the 211 for this, remove the inside wing liners, remove the rubber drains from the inner wing........throw them away, refit the liners!

Thats the mb recall!!

Thanks Sam & Teddy.

Have spoken to MB Dealer who inform me that the recall has already been done in July 07. They want £56 + Vat to investigate & decide from there. Is this usual practice? Do you reckon It's worth letting them look, have a go myself, or take it to a local Indie?

Your thoughts as ever are appreciated......................Joker.

just do it yourself. you know its done right then.

the dealer will be "winging it" as they go as all these things cases will be different, so you may aswell "wing it" yourself.

Hi all, fixed it (sort of). Got jack out to remove N/S front wheel to take a look at wing liner, found out that the plastic jacking point was missing! - See my new post.

Got compressor out & gave a good few blasts down the drain. Must have done something cos its draining OK from the nearside, but not the offside unfortunately. Still its a start & at least its draining.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers...........Joker.

Thanks Sam, Do I take it that one half of the drain goes directly to an exit on that side, or do they go straight down & then split off?

I've had some wire down there, but whatever hole I push it down I'm hitting a dead end.

Any indication of the diameter of the "spring" I need?

Cheers................Joker.

Hi all, managed to sort the blockage. Used a length of curtain wire & my compressor. Kept prodding & blowing for ages - then it went all of a sudden. Flows a treat now.

Heres the funny bit..... I said in a previous post that it was only flowing from the nearside & I couldn't unblock the offside despite trying for ages?

Reason - There is only one rubber drain pipe, and yes, it goes to the nearside!

Doh!

Cheers.....................Joker.
