Hi All - ive been reading a few threads on here about the above subject - sorta got some answers but still abit unsure....I have W210 220cdi 2001 - 117000 miles on the clock - for a while I have known I have a problem with one of the injectors (picked up on the last service) but the garage, a supposed indie said it would be £1300 to change all the injectors cos they didnt know which one was leaking. Well today i thought id get my arse into gear and check it out for myself. Took the engine cover off and saw - what I now know to call "Black Death" caked and I mean caked all round the injectors - I thought s**t this looks bad - got a screw driver and dug most of it out and then started the engine.

As i stand infront of the car, there is a "Blow by" on the number 2 injector, it seems that injector only (so it must have been leaking for some time) My question is, do i need a new injector or just a new sealing washer. I dont feel brave enough to do this job myself (due to the horror stories of snapping injectors in the head) so would this be a job that a good indie could do or will it have to go to the stealers? any idea of price for 1 injector change / removal? and i thought i read on here about loosening off the bolts to the injector and startin the engine for a couple of seconds - loosens the injector quite well. I also dont have a tapping kit - actually - i just dont feel brave enough to do it myself!!!

Answers on a postcard please!

Thanks

Matt

You maybe just as well to buy 3 cans of Mr muscle oven cleaner, cover the top of the engine and then power wash off, if still dirty do it again, it comes up like new, it also saves all the bits dropping down the injector hole and bolt hole.

Sounds like it needs a new seal, bolt and clamp cheap enough from MB, go easy on the bolts as they are long and can snap, when tightening the bolts its 7NM or 5.16 lbpft, and the 90 and 90 degress again.

Just make sure everything is as clean as it can be as one crumb on the mating surface of the seal can cause it to blow again.

as above i had all six on mine done 3 bolts snapped had to have then helicoiled the bolts that do come out replace and new clamps sounds lick the seals but you need a homeing tool to clean the carbon off the bore or the sam will happen again in time best bet is to to a injector place let them do it get them to check injectors while they got them out i had to replace 5 injectors and one refurbished £1000.00 all in thats on a six pot yours be a four pot so be cheaper if it not for the bolts snapping and inkectors sticking in be a ok job to do

Try your local cv dealer Sparshatts who have experience with this problem on the Vitos. They should help you out and the labour rates are cheaper than the pc workshops.
