Strange that noone on here has mentioned any problems with the new W204 diesel injectors. There have apparently been multiple failures on new cars and substantial delays in getting the parts to replace them. Noone seems to have been told of the problems before they purchased and those of us who are OK so far are naturally concerned about sudden failure. I have been trying to establish the percentage of new cars affected which appear to be the 220 and 250 cdis and not the 350cdi. If anyone has had this experience please let us hear from you

No personal experience but I'd heard similar.

Someone on the inside said they were seeing an awful lot coming in with this problem and felt it was a design issue with the injectors used on these engines.
MB were then just changing the individual injectors that were giving problems and sending them back out.
Some would then be straight back in with one of the other injectors failing.
(They're doubt hoping in the bulk of cases they'll limp past the warranty end date without needing them all replaced.)

Never buy the first one out of the box!

That'll be 3 years in most cases!

There's 8 pages of it on the other forum. I think most people flick too and fro.

Not on here but on MBClub UK-- aren't they different??

Yes they are.

On a separate point there seems to be a lot more information in Germany than over here.

My c220 cdi blue efficiency was towed away tonight - service engineer thinks likely an injector failure

My C220 Blue efficiency broke down on Friday. I have just had authorisation from Merc to replace all of the injectors with the version 5 ones being despatched today.

There is talk of version 6 on the other website.

Useful article on Bloomberg: -
see also a most informative article: -
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aGwciMGnjKWE

In case the link goes and becuase it is importnat for some, this is what the article says: -
Dec. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Daimler AG is replacing diesel- system fuel-injection nozzles on at least 4,500 Mercedes-Benz C- Class, E-Class and GLK models in Europe to reduce fuel clogging and static-electricity charges that limit the vehicles’ speed.
Daimler is installing the new parts for the OM 651 diesel engine as the fault prevents cars from traveling faster than 70 kilometers (44 miles) an hour, said Christoph Horn, a spokesman at Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler. The carmaker, which began the replacements in October as customers reported the problem, will consider actively recalling all 30,000 vehicles using the system should the defect affect a larger number than estimated.
Diesel-powered cars accounted for 45 percent of passenger vehicles sold in western Europe the first nine months of this year, the region’s auto-manufacturers’ association said in October. Daimler introduced the OM 651 at the end of 2008 to meet European Union emissions standards coming into force next year, according to the company’s Web site.
“We don’t currently have enough nozzles in stock to make all the necessary replacements,” Horn said, declining to comment on a report in WirtschaftsWoche magazine that customers must wait for months for the replacement parts.
Daimler fell as much as 44 cents, or 1.2 percent, to 36.31 euros and was down 0.9 percent as of 121:39 p.m. in Frankfurt trading. The stock has declined 37 percent this year.
Supplier Delphi Diesel Systems in Blois, France, “is working to achieve full capacity” to deliver the components to Daimler’s service unit, and customers are receiving replacement cars until their vehicles are fixed, Horn said. He declined to estimate any costs.
The injection nozzles’ failure triggers a software program that limits the car’s speed, Horn said. The faulty components pose no safety issue, he said.

Last year, a friend with a private hire firm was looking to replace their high mileage 211's.
I convinced them to talk to the lease firm that we have a service contract with about leasing. Thankfully they went down this route (3 year lease with a purchase option at the end) as both cars were off the road within 3 weeks of delivery with injector failure. MB will not provide loan cars for taxi or private hire use, but the lease firm were obliged to as part of the contract.
In a similar vein to Hawk, I know of a MB salesman who refused to sell another friend of mine a new one until they're sorted. Ash is a cash buyer of 2 or 3 mercs a year who was a little shocked by the salesmans response, but his mind was set at rest when I confirmed that there was indeed a problem & that the salesman whom he has dealt with for several years was acting in his best interests.
There is a real issue with these injectors, but I fear that MB may be in too deep with this system & the only way to resolve it may be a complete redesign of it.
These kind of faults are cropping up across most manufacturers in one form or another. I've just scrapped a '52 Mondeo tdci because of a known injection pump fault which takes out the injectors as well. would have cost the best part of £2000 in parts alone!

Yes. And this has just been posted on another forum re BMW injector problems: -

"Hi Guys: I just thought I'd say hello, I currently drive a BMW 3 series, I have done for a number of years with no problems until my new "efficient dynamic" 320i (2007 model). After 1 year it had been in the garage a total of 4 months having injectors replaced, software updates etc etc then BMW agreed to buy the car back from me and provide me with an identical car but 2008 model. My car is now 12 months old and has just started showing signs of the dreaded injector death again, so I have been looking to switch sides and buy a Mercedes... only this time I searched for any problems with injectors, and here I am. There are also lots of thread for the BMW engine, so for those of you wishing you'd bought a bmw, please don't! I'm on my second and wish I'd bought a Mercedes. I hope Mercedes do a better job of solving the actual problem as opposed to BMW scratching their heads and still producing poor quality engines!
Good Luck guys, I'll be keeping an eye on the forum!! "

This is an interesting link. Problem started in 2007 and still not resolved.

Long thread; may be best to start at the end.

C220 CDI Blue Efficiency

Hello,

My car died on me on the M6 last Tuesday night after just 8,500 miles. The garage could not even be bothered to tell me when my car would be back on the road. I have now been told it will be between 2 to 3 weeks.

In the meantime I have been given a 1.6 manual compact, despite being told I would receive a like for like replacement vehicle.

I contacted our fleet manager, and we have 15 off the road waiting for parts.

Mercedes Benz have know about a faulty batch for sometime, shame they didn't let me know when I ordered the vehicle

A diesel

How would they know?

Who makes a model called Compact?

If you had known the MB Blue Efficiency cars had duff injectors would you have still ordered one or gone for another car/brand?

By the nature of how piezo injectors work they will fail in short order, initial projections were for 20k miles due to the multiple firings (5) on each power stroke.
I suspect we haven't heard the last of failing piezo injectors.
