Blue exhaust smoke

After a motorway run into town, I see blue smoke from my exhaust after stopping and starting at lights etc. There is none if I just drive round town. Is this valve stem oil seals ? Has anyone tried seal rejuvenating additive ? The car is a 560sec with 160k miles.

Sound like those stem seals to me, esp if the smoke is particularly obnoxious smelling. AFAIK there is no cheap "fix".

Hi

I would say the valve guides are probably worn out. Especially at 160k. I would try valve stem seals first & it will probably cure your problem. But for how long cannot be guranteed. But probably long enough for you to cope with

Thanks Andy. I see from my manual that a special valve spring compressor is used. Could the oil seals be a DIY job ? If I get a local specialist to do it what might I expect to pay ?

Hi

I don't think it is a DIY job. Take it to your specialist. There many things that can go wrong if you don't know what your are doing. Its approx 6.5hrs work, with the special tools.
