I used Mer - The Ultimate Car Polish on my Obsidian Black C200 (which is 15 months old) to remove some stubborn marks on the bonnet. The marks disappeared but although I had used it 100% successfully before, this time under artificial light I can see a faint cloud where I applied it. I did not damp the cloth by an oversight. Can anyone tell me how to fix this apparent damage?

I would have thought that a fine cutting polish would take it away, used watered down if necessary.

Turtle wax do a fine cutting polish (called restore) for metalic's and solid colour's, that will restore the lustre. I use "Mer" you should have done it wet.

If you have a polisher (foam head) glass polish from Frost

http://www.frost.co.uk/classic-car-restoration.asp

If you do get some only get the small packet. For what you want it for you could hand rub it I think.

Hi Malcolm, I've tried all sorts of creams etc,. Polished, rubbed shammied... always there! Also see it on the trim below the windows but when it comes back from MB service or valet nothing! Is it to do with 'softened water' or something?

I use Autoglym bumper car on the trim below the windows and that takes the water marks off. Not sure if it is soft water or the chemicals that the dealer cleaners use as I don't get the water marks when I clean my car. :D

Can I bring mine round to yours to clean? ;) I know its trivial but its still annoyng! Dealer seems to zap car with jet washer then drive it round to collection and.... spotless

I have always thought that the glass on some cars is too soft, my 129 was a pig to keep free of spots and stains.

I polished with the glass polish and then used Rain X. I feel sure that it was OK after that. My 230 stays very clean on its own.

Strange subject is glass.

Thank you for your helpful answers. Clay bar is very interesting but looks rather time consuming; will try it one day.

Television and Dave's E55 AMG should I follow up fine cutting polish with wax?

To clay bar is quite time consuming, but the results are spectacular - the finish is soooo smooth.

Just remember, if you drop the piece of clay on the ground - throw it away, grit particles are attracted to it like filelings to a magnet.
