During its first year of life my A150 Classic SE (Nov 07 Cosmos Black metallic) picked up numerous stone chips on the bonnet. Decided to have the bonnet re-sprayed by MB approved bodyshop as the car was going in anyway for a (not my fault) rear bumper repair.

Result (touch wood) not a single stone chip in five months since.

What might be the explanation?

Your original paint was the hard ceramic, that splinters, the new paint is just normal, and much softer, so the stones do not give that sharp jagged hole

Thank you for this explanation,Malcolm. It does seem odd that in this respect the 'normal' finish apparently copes better with day-to-day hazards than the factory original.

hey dude, did you get a list of approved resprayers or just come across one in the yellow pages or similar, i could do with finding a decent sprayer for a custom merc colour around the midlands area?
