Hi, first time post from a new MB owner so be gentle on me!

I have recently bought me & the wife a 230 slk on a 52 plate for a weekend car just for a bit of fun.
Obviously being 7 years old it is by no means perfect but overall i'm verry happy with it.
There are a few minor rust spots behind rubber trims & under the bonnet lid but nothing too serious if treated sooner rather than later.

One thing i would appreciate some advice regarding is the boot lid, it appears to sit too low to the point that where it has been closed with too much force it has touched the bumper chipping a corner of paint on each corner of the bottom of the boot & marking the bumper at the point of contact.
Is there adjustment in the boot so that i could lift it fractionally? I can see a number of T30 torx screws which may or may not be what i'm looking for but i dont want too wade in bearing in mind the whole retracting roof assembly may be affected.
I would appreciate any advice thanks guys

Regards
Mat

Another boot adjustment problem

Hi everyone, another newbie here.

Car is a facelift 2001 SLK 230. The boot has become (almost overnight) difficult to shut due to the boot catch not engaging. The boot catch will engage if you use both hands to give it a big push down. Strange as until about a week ago I never had a problem. The catch is in good working order and greased.

The problem now is that I tried adjusting things by changing the length of the two bolts in the boot lid that have rubber 'caps'. These bolts shut down onto rubber 'buffers' inside the boot. It made no real difference except that I didn't mark their original position, so having tried to adjust their length back to where they were, I have ended up with significant boot rattle when I drive.

Help needed in how to adjust the boot properly, and perhaps on why the boot catch suddenly stopped working as it used too.

Many thanks

Received and printed Malcolm, and very grateful for your help. Seems to give many options to sort out the bootlid and the boot lock so should have a busy weekend.

Once again my grateful thanks to you and the forum.
Graham ;)

Malcolm I was wondering, depending on the size of the list of instructions.., for instance, is it possible to reprint the instructions on here..this will give others who come up against similar problems an insight as to how they should tackle these tasks.. I do appreciate that infringment of copyright may be a problem..

It is the posting here and the copyrights that stop me,,I know it may seem boring to those reading the post.

There could be some relaxing of the rules soon I hope.

I could re write things but it would take ages, and my post count would still be under 100

I got banned within a few weeks of joining over this.

If I have the file in stock, then it only takes seconds to send them,,we will see what happens, I know that some scan and put up from the EPG

Hmm - not meaning to hijack this thread but seems like a better idea to ask my own boot related question here rather than start another one with the same title ;)

Anyway - on my old C43 the boot used to open really nicely. Either on the remote or when opened via switch etc it popped open and then opened all the way up in a nice controlled fashion. On my CLK though this isn't the case. Whatever method I use to initially open the boot all it does is pop open but about an inch or so - after that I need to manually open it, and by that I mean give it a pull until the springs take over and raise it the rest of the way.

Is this perhaps something that I could adjust so that it will open smoothly all the way like my C43 did or is it just worn springs/not adjustable etc? Any suggestions welcome :)

Cheers,
Mark

if you remove the side panels in your boot you will see several mounting holes for the boot springs - just try various positions till you are happy with it!

slk 170 230 54 plate
slk boot out of alignment.

Hi all,
loving my new car and enjoying tinkering with it, so would like to know if anyone still has some info on how to align the boot better, as i have some evidence of rubbing on the corners at the two lowest points under the number plate area and onto the bumper. I think this happened when the roof has been lowered. Any help would make me very grapefruit, thanks in anticipation of any response Mark O.

Are there not 2 rubber/plastic stops that screw in and out to stop the lid from closing too far down
