Hi,
My boot light has started to play up. I open the boot and the light comes on as it should but when its open about a foot the light goes off again. Anyone know what it may be?
Cheers Toby

The wiring is starting to break up due to the movement of the hinge. If you leave it, the next stage may be central locking faults, blown fuses, battery drain/flat, sparking etc,so get it fixed. Good news is you can do it yourself. All you need is some good lighting, a flat blade screwdriver, insulating tape, some basic soldering equiptment & be able to lay on your back in the boot for 3/4 hour. You will need to remove the main side trim in the boot (I think the wires run on the driver's side only) These are held in place by 2, 2-piece black plastic rivots + being a hard moulded plastic liner itself, it does need a good pull to get it out. Peel back the tape around the wires in the area of the hinge/parcel shelf & you will come across the faulty wires (probably brown/yellow)

I forgot to mention that this is on my TE - does this change things?

Can anyone tell me where the switch is that turns the light on and off?
Thanks

An early 124 TE is completely different, although your fault could still be faulty wiring around the hinge. The switch is in part of the pull-down mechanism for the auto-close.

Hi,
Still had no luck getting this to work. With the car being an estate the wiring is hard to see.Has anyone got any ideas as with the dark nights the fact the light only works for the first foot of the boot opening and then goes out is becoming a real pain - especially when getting the 5 greyhounds out!
Thanks Toby

As Type49 said, replace the wires going past the hinge. And feed the greyhounds carrots - it improves night vision
