I have recently bought this E Class and have had a little difficulty with closing the boot. If closed from a hight it would not catch and bounce open but if gently closed from a low hight it would catch and close. The boot would open by using the key fob or the switch in the door however that all changed today neither the fob nor the door switch nor the little key in the fob would open the boot. Is there an easy way of getting into the boot or another way of opening it?

The metal key should work, plenty of lube and work it back and forth

All fixed, problem caused by finger handle on boot lid sticking. Once this was released (more wd40) everything ok and boot opens with key. Just got to sort out the microswitch or cable now to get electronics to open the boot now. Thanks for your help, especially Blobcat.

Now you’ve got it working, ditch the WD and get some lubricant on it - silicone spray grease is recommended

Never use silicone on metal to metal bearings or surfaces as it promotes galling.

Maybe in gun usage but unlikely in the boot lock…

I use graphite powder or dry moly spray in the actual lock but silicone pretty much everywhere else

Agreed and its atrractive to dirt. i used it on the hinges of my W220 boot. Its a dirt magnet. Cleaned up and a rub of normal oil.
