Is it possible to find bose speakers from other cars and fit into a c class? also what difference will it make without having the bose headunit?

One of my speakers is blown and ive always been a fan of bose so im just wondering if i can replace it all but on a budget, any ideas or views welcome!!

Mercedes or find an audio specialist they should be able to supply custom fit for mercs. JBL are good too.

You won,t be able to fit BOSE speakers without the BOSE amplifier I,m afraid, unless of course you manage to source the whole set up which i have seen on E-bay before.
But personnally try Mercedes themselves for a replacement speaker, but do you replace the pair (front or rear) even if it is MB item, probably just as cheap for a pair as it is for one.

As above the original radio will not have the output to drive them

I replaced the standard spec speakers on my A140 with Bose by just looking up the Mercedes part numbers, going to a dealership and buying them, same coil resistance (Ohms) etc, just drop in fit and were powered by an Audio 30 Navigation unit. Didnt have the Sub-Woofer in the wheel, but the sound was markedly better and richer. I temporarily fitted a Blaupunkt THB200A for bass and it was great, at least the sound was :), not the car!

Speakers are speakers, if the Ohms are the same you have no issues. True, you may not get the full sound range if driven by a markedly more powerful or better frequency matched amplifier, but there are gains to be had. If the Bose speakers for the C-Class have a lower Ohmage than the original standard spec units, check out the specification of your head unit/power amplifier and if its capable of driving into a lower resistance, then should be no problem, apart from clipping at peak output (when the amplifier is not able to supply the required power due to the output stages or power into the amplifier (amplifier phobes will probably continue on the list with Capacitors, Inductors etc, but ignore!))

If you can source them at a scrapper, best way to go.

OK the Audio 30 has got a good output, and in some cars an amp was not fitted. All MB speakers use the same impedance for a given model. The other thing is that the cone suspension is stiffer in the higher wattage versions, and some power is lost here. On the impedance value, if you decrease the impedance, the power output goes up, only to the point though where the amp blows up, and is no more

Recently had new door speakers fitted to my CLK by Sextons and can thoroughly recommend them.

I agree, but depends on the manufacturer as to how they sound with a less powerful amplifier. Crunch speakers, rated over 100W RMS sounded terrible with the Audio 30, but the Bose were just great.

Aka amplifier, its why I mentioned checking the specification of the amplifier, some are rated 2-8 ohms, albeit different power ratings according to impedance (and different THD %), but I certainly wouldnt recommend 2 Ohm speakers on a 4/8 Ohm amplifier as like you say, destruction would not be far away.

That used to be good for business, but I am not doing much these days, 59 years is enough:sad:

Best amplifier destruction was when I plugged my brothers speakers into the mains! He had the habit of poking wires into sockets instead of attaching a plug and there were some bare wires just below a plug, so wanting to get the stereo going, I just plugged them in! Massive explosion from the speakers and the Amp!!!! Guess they didnt make fault-tolerant equipment back in those days

Does anyone know the size of the speakers in the rear doors of a C class, w203 i think, 2001

Decided to just replace the one thats blown or do them both so i'll look for some online.

Also does the grill part on the door pop off to expose the speaker or does the whole door card need to come off?
