I managed to fix my left side repeater on the wingmirror, I originally thought was the cause but it seems not.
All repeaters/bulbs etc in the whole car now work fine, I've changed the ones that were wrong. Although the dash still comes up as defective light.
There seems to be no obvious reason for both left and right indicators to be flashing fast. They flash fast both on the dash and outside, which I've heard is unusual. They work like normal when hazard lights are on.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,
Are all the bulbs normal standard tungsten/non LED type?

This happens anytime, stopped or moving. the indicators arn't on all the time, they turn on and off as normal just they flash fast.

I dont think there is any LED ones in there, all should be normal as far as i know. i removed the aftermarket ones the previous owner put in and they are standard now.

Back a million years ago when I was in the business, we found higher than standard wattage bulbs caused flashers to run fast. The module works on heat produced by the electrical current and more current makes for more heat and quicker flashing. Might not apply to modern cars.

This whole thing is so frustrating since this is the only thing left supposedly failing my mot.
The damn indicators work they just flash fast, i dont see why its such a big deal. perhaps ill chat to them...

If all working correctly, and just flashing too fast, this only leaves incorrect bulbs or faulty N10 relay.

Had a similar problem on just one indicator - replaced the bulb but light still flashing too fast - I took the bulb out and cleaned around the connector with some electrical cleaner spray then once dried and the bulb was back in it flashed correctly. Could it also be a poor earth connection?

As both sides are the same, I think that we can discount bulbs, so a possible fault in that N10, but like all these thing I would not want you to buy something secondhand and it does not solve the problem, If only you could borrow one to try.

Which relay is it? My some neighbores a few doors down have the same car, perhaps i could ask them.

Guys i still havn't gotten to the bottom of this indicator flashing too fast.

I have checked both engine bay fuse boxes, cant find anything.

Here is pictures of both, anyone see anything?

I am aware that the ticking noise when you inidcate comes from the relay, and that noise is coming from inside the dash behind the steering wheel. i had the bottom cover off but i couldn't see whats what looking up inside there.

My local MOT place, which is extortionately priced hence why i didnt use them at first, actually said they wouldn't likely fail it on that. so im tempted to take it there and forget about it. but i should really try and fix it.

Ok, i had the problem with limp mode on my car which i have now fixed, and i was able to head down to some MOT stations to ask if they would pass my car with these indicators.. they wont.

Im down to my wits end fixing these damn things.

The option i am exploring now is whether my tow bar is causing any problems.
Im not sure if its an factory installed tow bar, it looks very neatly and correctly wired in like the rest so i am thinking it is. its detachable and lives with plastic holder inside my spare wheel.

Could it be that the tow bar is shorting somewhere, or does it need to be unplugged at the electrics end when its not in use.
Im of the understanding its by the SAM, where is that in my car? (w210 e320 2001) and what am i looking for?
