The Boxter is a real driver's car :) Disregard all the stereotype comments as they mostly come from people who have never driven the car, but just like to attached labels to things. I would say though if image is important then the 3.2S would be the model to go for.

  It's still a girl's car. ;)

But James Dean was killed in a 550 Spyder.

Boxters? Butch? No.

Poverty porsche, for people who didnt want to or couldnt afford a 911.

you could get a decent SL [older mind] for the same money. or keep the SLK

By that tone isn't a SLK for people who can't afford a SLR! ;)
or
buying a 2 bed house is for people who can't afford a 5 bed.

Yes there are people who have more/less money than others and that's exactly why car manufacturers give us all a choice :)

point. i'm all for choice, but i don't agree with your example - the SLK isnt a poverty mercedes. its a smaller version for people who dont want something as big as an SL.

IMHO the boxster is in the same class as the 911, it does pretty much the same job, but its cheaper, it doesnt look as good, and its performance isnt up to 911 standard. its exactly the same trick they pulled in the 1980s with 924 and 944.

Not that i can afford any of these cars. at the moment.

They call it a poor mans Porsche, but the running costs can be rich mans Porsche size.
They had one or two issues-I could put you on to someone who knows Porkers inside out.He doesn't do bullpoo,& won't tell you something because it's what you want to hear.

But James Dean was killed in a 550 Spyder.

But I doubt if the post mortem findings would have differed much in a 550 spyder, a 356 or a Boxster. Rear or mid engined road cars don't offer much protection, even to the rich and famous. :(

They offer plenty of protection to the wise and sensible and none to the stupid. Just like any other car. Darwin would have approved.

Personally I would go for a Boxster before an SLK all day long.

My preference would be a Boxster S with a hard top for the winter. Can't remember what year they changed from plastic rear window to glass, but if you can afford it go for the glass.

Test drive one and you will see why they are still considered the best little sports car around.

i think the Boxster is a great design. I have seen a few around but only willing to part with cash for a good one. I never buy a shed and always do well for picking up something cheap. Ideally i will get a 2002 Boxster in mint condition for around £7500 - xmas time is usually the best time to buy

I paid £4200 for a mint R170 200k (2000 yr) in jan - my most recent purchase - get around 5750-6000 for it now

Sounds like you've got a good eye for a bargain.
Good luck with the searching, I'll be interested to hear how you get along.
