Hi guys,

Has anyone put one of these on there C220 cdi? I really want to go ahead with getting this done but im worried about the MPG as I do 4-6k miles per month and dont really want to be shelling out tooo much extra(with fuel prices as they are its bad enough!).

Thanks in advance.

When I enquired about this I was told mpg isn't much affected and emissions stay the same.

Care must be taken in that you do not overload the gearbox when chipping

When I put in my Brabus pack to my C320 Cdi it made the fuel economy better! In fact so much it's almost a dream!

My average, doing a motorway run around 80-85 mph, up from 36.7 to 50.3 mpg.

Emissions are unaffected.

The guy who installed even told me that if the car is driven normally, I should see an increase in mpg.

I did and I am one happy man about that! :D

What effect does fitting a Brabus chip have on your insurance and your Mercedes warranty? Assuming they know about it of course.

Its also advisable IIRC that it isn't chipped after 18k miles.

TBH if power is an issue with the 220cdi, then a more powerful car (320cdi) is whats needed, but alas that issue of fuel :(

blame Gordon Brown and Darling as to why you are worried about fuel prices.

How much was the brabus kit in the first instance.

If your figures are right that's an amazing difference, but I'm still supprised you got 36 mpg out of a C320 doing 80-85 mph. I would,ve thought mpg would drop considerably at 70+.
Are this figures brim to brim or from the trip display.

Apologies if this is a stupid question but could I buy an A160CDI and have it chipped? The price difference between the 160 and the 200 is £3220 for the same engine with just more power. Other wise specs are identical.

Wow that is one hell of an improvement -- I can't even get 50 mpg running at 60 mpg on a motorway.....how did this affect your insurance?

I looked at the Brabus chip 6 months ago and found that it invalidates the warranty on a 220cdi. The 320cdi was supported for 60,000 miles if fitted by Mercedes from new or before 18,000 miles had been covered. Somewhere else on the forum, somebody has chipped two 220cdi's and broke both gearboxes, add the fact that Mercedes do not support it and you can draw your own conclusions.

Well, all my miles so far are motorway with some town driving and according to the on-board computer this is what I got. But this is using the cruise on a long run. Driving in town, the C320 (with or without chip) is never going to be particular economical anyway.

These engines are not built for 70 mph, but more like 80-90 mph. My previous Volvo was the same, took less fuel at 85 than at 60.

Expensive!

I pay almost nothing in insurance on this car, but once told, it went up with almost 50%.....

Brabus will give you a warranty on those, incl mechanical I believe. BUT.... MB has not tested and approved them to be covered under their warranty. Only the chip for the 320 Cdi (so far) has been approved.

I would never fit a chip that voids warranty due to the reasons you mention.

Apparently Mercedes were offering them for the 220 to start with, but they were withdrawn rather quickly leaving only the 320 chip. Someone who works for Mercedes posted a more detailed answer in this or the other forum about 6months ago. If I remember correctly, Mercedes thought the 220 chip was "too aggresive in its power delivery". I think that may have been code for, wrecked too many gearboxes. Someone else posted the maximum safe torque figures for the 220 gearbox and most of the chips go above this figure I think.

That defies all the laws of physics and aerodynamics etc etc.... In my car C320 cdi if i stick to 65 - 70 on a motorway for a long distance (using speedtronic to limit top speed) I get mid to high 40's -- If o drive in the mid '80's I get low 40's high 30's -- so I must disagree with that..
