this could be 1 of 2 things that i can think of. either there is another bulb somewhere that isnt working, or there is an incorrect bulb fitted to the car (ie wrong wattage) and as a result the resistance is incorrect and putting the warning of a bulb failure up on the dash

Hi,
When does the bulb failure lamp illuminate? with out touching the brakes, turn the side lights on, (switch one clic), if it illuminates in this position the problem lies in the front side light lamps, rear side light lamps and number plate illumination lamps, remove all the lamps and clean them and the contacts on the lamp holders, also re-tension the lamp holder contacts. Also be aware you may have 2 rear side lights each side as the c class of this era does.

The rear bulb holders are a strong possibility - MB changed both sides for me (FOC) shortly after purchasing the car it appeared they had problems with them, so you might have to replace yours.

You could try cleaning the bulb holders with Electrolube Switch Cleaner or an equivalent to remove the film that causes a high resistance. Also if any of the bulbs have that smokey black appearance change them.

Hope this helps.
