I have started to have a noise that happens when the car is at slow speed, often slowing down. It sounds like metal on metal and could be the brakes. It happens after a while travelling and the brakes are used more often than at higher speeds cruising. It's as if the metal is heating up. Any ideas what it maybe or am I being to vague? Thought I would ask for ideas before getting it looked at.

Could be the rust build up on the outside of the rear discs.

Pop the wheel off and you can knock the rusty lip off with a hammer - just use axle stands as well as a jack to support the car and remember to chock the front wheels as you want it in neutral so you can easily turn the disc.

It happens when certain quality pads have been very hot. The softer parts of the compound are burnt away and you are left with the black cast iron particles grinding on the discs at low speed. Take the pads out. You'll see that the edges look rusty brown and they will have tiny holes in them or even breaking up.
