I have just had the discs and pads replaced on my 1997 W202, with genuine Merc parts by a trained Merc mechanic. All was well until the last couple of days I have noticed that the brakes have become noisy, not squealing but just as the car comes to a stop there is a rubbing/grinding noise. It does tend to vary on the mount of pressure put on the brake pedal

Would this be caused by glazing of the pads or a consequence of the harder compounds in use today, or Is it just brake dust?

Any ideas?

I've just had genuine discs and pads fitted in all 4 corners, done by a specialist, and I, too, hear what sounds like rubbing just before stopping. I can feel it in the pedal too. I've had it before and I think it's normal. I hope this puts your mind at ease. Of course, your noise could be different from mine. Hard to tell on the web.:)

Yes me too, I can also hear it when I take my foot of the brake as well. Maybe the brakes need time to "bed in".
