Brake pad types

Good morning all,hope you can help I'm about to order both rear and front brake pads for my Mercedes Benz e280 V6 1998 I am slightly confused as rear pads are the square type but website is say either 1 hole or 2 hole what's the holes for ?

It’s the pins that hold the brake pads in place along with the shims. The correct type will be supplied if you use your VIN number and order through the MB dealer who does mail order and offers a discount for forum members. You need need new wear sensors? One for front and one for back.
