Brake pads or shoes

Hi folks, driving to work tonight the brake shoe symbol came on the dashboard, how long roughly before they will need changing because I'm sure it's not critical to change them asp or is it, thanks for any replies.

Thanks Malcolm, I take it that it's the front pads that req changing would that be correct.

You have wear sensors on the front and the back. So, could be either...most likely front though.

All the lights do is tell you the pads have worn down to the sensors---the longer you leave it with the light on you will wear down the sensors too!
(ECP with MB owners discount of 25% is a good deal at the moment )

Thanks guys,had my car serviced in April this year at mb, front was 25% worn rears were 10% worn I have only done 2000 miles since then sounds like they have worn very quickly. Any thoughts on this ?

Both types of sensor have to be replaced once the warning is on.
