Dear all,
I am contemplating bringing my 1964 model 220SB "finnie" from Tasmania, Australia with me to the UK. I have had it 17 years and it has about half a million miles (of which I have put over 300,000 miles) on it. It has some rust, but as they don't use salt on the roads here isn't too bad. I have recently had a lot of work done on the steering, suspension, and brakes. I recently had an engine and a differential from later model Mercedes installed. The manual gearbox has been done up with new seals and bearings.
My question is :
Would it be practical for me to register this car in the UK and get it through your roadworthiness inspection? It is rather tatty looking, but I guess you get the idea that I am rather attached to it. Am I likely to find a similar car already in the UK (finnie, manual gearbox, small engine) that would be a better proposition? If I sell this car over here I will get nothing for it.
Your advice would be appreciated. My email address is dmickey@bigpond.com.au
Regards,
David Mickey
