Hey guys i have a serious problem.

My keyfob has been a bit tempremental over the last few weeks and i decided to bite the bullet and buy new batteries, although when i was changing them a few things happened - one of the connectors on the bottom of the board has come clean off and the cantilever connector for the top of the battery has snapped half way and one of the solder points is loose. I managed to find the bottom connector but the other connector half is long gone as it was so tiny, iv tried using bit of metal to try and get a circuit but the locks wont fire, also i cant get access to my boot because the manual lock is goosed so i cant bypass the immobilser via battery disconnection.

Is this an easy fix? or have i ruined the entire thing? Much help would be appreciated thanks! (Have attached pics for your convenience)

Merc W202 C180 1994Reg

Please help thanks!

These can often be fabricated and re soldered back on, in bad cases buy a secondhand key from Ebay and transefer the part over

Did you resynchronise the key after it was without power while its batteries were out.

He might have got it “working” but because it wasn’t synchronised it didn’t unlock the car and therefore didn’t release the immobiliser.

If he can get it to work once then he can release the immobiliser and then lock the car via the key in the passenger door until the PCB is repaired or replaced.

Sometimes there is a way around a problem.

Hey guys thanks so much for trying to help! im a bit confused with that last diagram! however i've stumbled upon a new problem! the little LED at the front has been damaged too iv had to remove it to save from losing it.. do i need this LED to unlock the vehicle, it's just i have managed to solder the parts back on at a garage and seen the led blink but i've tried it at the car and nothing, iv even tried the lock button on the dashboard to unlock the boot to gain access to the battery but all im hearing is a whining noise from the locking system... still cant start the car will upload a new pic of my "dodgy" soldering work and the LED in question

Here are some pictures of the resoldered things ... as before i couldnt find the other half of that top connector so i soldered a spare contact from an old dash bulb when i was upgrading my instrument clusters to LED. Also you can see the LED from the fob looking a bit lonely i dont know if this is needed to get the car to start?

Thanks for you help guys keep it coming!

Have you Red and Green lights on rear view mirror?

I’m not sure if I have the end of the Black wire at the right place, you will know better yourself, the wires are to be soldered on to substitute for the broken bits of metal contacts.

You will need to get the broken led back on again.
Did you resynchronise the remote?
Keep checking the remote with a digital camera until you get it right.

Edit, is the switch on the PCB ok, see... http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=26895

If you have Red and Green lights in the mirror then that’s where the inferred receiver is located… have you these lights in the mirror or drivers door, in any case point at wherever you usually point when unlocking.

Have you synchronised the remote as described in the picture above?

The idea here is to disable the immobiliser so you can start the car, getting the remote fixed properly can wait for another day, the remote can be in a halve open case if necessary, your goal is to get the remote to work just once so as to disable the immobiliser… keep trying.

attachment.php

Above, in a darkened room, pressing the button for 1 second will make the Red BATTERY CHECK light illuminate for a split second as in top halve of picture.

Continuously holding the button down will produce the inferred signal as in bottom halve of picture so the camera test should produce a Red and a Blue/White light… I can’t tell what light you have from your picture.

Dec

Edit, you might have to put the Red plastic lens over the remote bulb to see it properly.

Thanks mate i have assembled a make shift "case" for the components , tied the batteries down with sandwich bag ties and have used the thin metal wire within one of those ties to attatch the LED to the contacts so i can concentrate on holding the LED in place without worrying about the batteries flying around while trying to do this ill give it a go! i just fear i might have ran the battery (car battery) a bit while all this fuss has been going on (2 days lights on lights off windows up an down constant pressing of the internal locks button) but the lights do go on and the car does attempt to start so is it worth a shot? or should i have a spare car with me just incase (bear in mind i cant get access to the boot unless the locks fire).

thanks!

The key is still in bad shape, I presume, if it is, don’t use it until you are confident that its been reliably repaired as there seem to be a lot of faults with it.

If you can open the boot? treat it with the boot lid in the fully open position with WD40 or some Penetrating oil, it will take time to free it up.

Yea the key will have to be repaired some other time i will just manually lock and unlock the car... dont bother about the immobiliser now, and i can get to the boot if the central locking is open so i can get access i think its the key hole is goosed
