Broken lid hinge on central console storage

Sad story: My wife placed her earrings on the lid of the central console storage bin of our new C200 AMG. The lid flipped up by accident, delivering said earrings somewhere into the bowels of the car and somehow jamming the lid open. I managed to un-jam (?) the lid and recovered one earring, but now the lid won't close. A thin metal bar with a loop at the end, just a few cm long, has appeared in the tray, presumably part of the the hinge mechanism. I cant see any way to fix this (or, secondarily, retrieve second earring!). Any ideas? Thanks for any help
