Do you think driving 2 miles on a soft tyre at 15mph would buckle a rim?

How soft , but buckle a rim I do not think so, what is the problem, is the car shaking with your new tyre

very soft, when the guy balanced the wheel he said the rim looked buckled and needed 200grm of weights, it took him over three hours to get the tyre on

If you are going to tell me the rim is 20" and the tyre has 35 profile or similar, then sadly the answer is probably yes.

You can check this your self by jacking the car and set up something just off touching the rim and spin the wheel, do this at the bottom of the wheel and you can check inside and out.

If the rim was buckled due to the flat tyre this could be seen I think on the outer edge of the rim

Hmmm. I bet they look fabulous, but this can be a problem with large wheels...

has anyone had a wheel straightened before, will it work or should I start saving up. I've been told these come in at over 2k each ecccccccch

I'll almost lay money on it being the inside...

Fair comment uncle benz,,I run on 18" but I have been looking at some 19" as fitted to the latest SLs, maybe I should forget them, they would have a 35 profile,,

The 20" wheels here are a 30 profile,

Some can be straightened quite successfully, but IMO the wheel would be more likely to buckle again than any of the others. Are the firm reputable? I would say it's worth spending a bit more to get the best people on it that you can. Get them to take a good look at it first - get the wheel off the car and ask them to say 'no' if they are not confident, rather than take it on and mess it up. Who do you have in mind??

Have a look at the condition of the roads where you live before making a decision. The roads around here look like Basra lately.

All sorted out, the biggest problem they had was removing and refitting the tyre, the outside edge was the culprit.

I dropped the car off at 11.00am picked it back up at 3.00pm £55 nice people to deal with, I hade a look at a few wheels they had refurbished, top job, I shall be getting mine done in the new year, if I've not been credit crunched.
