    Please help!

After numerous trips to my local garage to resolve this problem it happens again..
When the engine warms up after about 20 mins driving, the temp guage suddenly goes up very quickly and the engine starts to run rough. If I continue driving I get a very acrid burning smell coming from the drivers side of the engine bay (smells like burning plastic or rubber) which then fills the inside of the car! My garage have just replaced the particulate filter as I was also getting a lot of smoke on acceleration but that appears to be ok now. The burning small and the engine running rough has been an intermittant problem for a number of months but now is happening every time I get the car to full temp.

Any ideas so I can let me garage know where to look!!??

Do you ever do any lengthy journeys?

And what temperature does the guage show when hot?

I travel about 60 mile round trip to work and back during the week.

The temp goes up to about 90

Certainly sounds like a DPF regeneration issue.

Is the 60-mile commute done at walking pace or motorway speeds?

If the latter, there should really be no issue with the DPF. If the former, then you are always going to have problems, I'm afraid.

    Nearly always at motorway speeds..

I had to top up the coolant this morning when I got the warning but even after I did this the same thing happened again today, the engine felt like it was missing and the burning smell followed.
