TBH, we have just change the split rad in thepast and had no problems. :) obviously checking for overheating but normally just old age in the rad.

Hi everyone. finally got everything together and filled system up, Just done a 12 mile run, and everything is fine, car running well.
It seems that the viscous coupling on the fan had given up, and with being sat in traffic for a long time, the engine got hot, I presume the rad burst through old age, and i think the pressure needed to burst the rad was less that blowing the rad cap. Best thing is that the head gasket is ok, so check your viscous coupling, it could save you a few bob!
